How do you set an hdtv to optimal picture settings?

I have an Insignia IS-LCDTV26 and the picture is alright right now, but i wanted to get the settings as good as they can be so i can really enjoy the experience of having an hdtv. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

November 2008 COnsumer Reports tells you how to calibrate your own tv instead of spending $250 to do it professionally. Free at the library
I had a professional do this. Choose Manual Convergence in the Menu. You get 40 different “screens”; one at a time. Each one looks like a Tic-Tac-Toe board. You push the arrows on the controllers until the color lines match up exactly with the tictactoe lines. Then you push Enter and do the next one. You can do it yourself. it is boring and i could not notice any difference and i love HD..
